Project description
Leading facade and timber-products specialists, Taylor Maxwell turned to us in the development of a new residential development in south-east Edinburgh, utilising our Shot-Blasted Linear brick.
With stringent planning processes to adhere to, Taylor Maxwell assisted the Architects, Smith Scott Mullan Associates, by working alongside us to select an architectural grey brick for one apartment block that sits in a prominent corner of the site. The build forms part of a wider affordable housing development known as Tudsbery Court, in Craigmillar.
Located on the edge of the Thistle Foundation conservation area, the development constitutes 223 new homes for mid-market rent, shared equity purchase and social rented accommodation for Places for People and Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association . The 6-storey building is afforded a contemporary finish thanks to the use of our grey Shot-Blasted Linear brick.
Divisional Director for Taylor Maxwell, Jeremy Southam said: “The Tudsbery Court project is a prestigious build in the area. As such, we worked closely with Ibstock to specify a product for for Smith Scott Mullan Associates and Hart Builders, in consultation with Places for People and Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association, that would not only fit in with the local surroundings but also offer a distinctive exterior. Choosing Ibstock's Linear bricks also meant that we were able to provide a solution that secures the longevity of the building.
“We began the specification process in 2014 and Ibstock's team worked closely with us in order to ensure we specified the right materials for the job at hand. Thistle Four is situated amongst post-war building blocks, so we were keen on the facade of the building to match in colour with the local buildings, while having a completely fresh design. Ibstock made this process as pain free as possible and advised us every step of the way on its unique linear range.”
Our Linear Shot-Blasted brick offers a completely different and contemporary aesthetic for buildings, while still maintaining a durable and low maintenance exterior. Available in lengths of up to 440mm and depths of either 65mm or 50mm, Linear Shot-Blasted brick allows architects and specifiers to accentuate the look of the facade and finish the build with a contemporary design.
John Lovatt, Head of Marketing for Ibstock’s Concrete Division, added: “Tudsbery Court is a prestigious build that we have enjoyed being part of from start to finish. The range of Linear bricks supplied to Taylor Maxwell offer the building a distinctive finish that makes the building stand out from the surrounding high-rise buildings.
“Tudsbery Court provides residents a contemporary and more modern looking home and Taylor Maxwell has worked closely with our team to ensure the bricks selected would complement a positive and vibrant living environment. We are proud to have been part of this journey and are incredibly pleased with the overall look of the building.”
Ibstock's Linear range offers contractors flexibility in the types and finishes of the building materials used with a wide variety of colours and finishes available, including the increasingly popular polished varieties. The range offers architects and specifiers the flexibility to create distinct exteriors while maintaining the look and feel of traditional materials.
