The NEW Atlas Brick Factory
Ibstock is making a significant impact on the UK's construction industry, following c.£64m investment in its Atlas brick factory located in Walsall, West Midlands.
This substantial investment further strengthens Ibstock’s commitment to support the demand for high-quality, sustainable building materials that are essential for the UK housing market.
New State-of-the-Art Facilities
The new state-of-the-art facilities will produce durable, lower carbon and CarbonNeutral® certified bricks.
Bricks will have c.50% less embodied carbon than before, achieved through operational efficiencies, new technologies, and renewable electricity.
Ibstock aims to further reduce carbon emissions with new technologies and solutions.
Carbon offsetting will be used for the 'pathfinder' range of CarbonNeutral® bricks, in collaboration with Climate Impact Partners.

The Pathfinder brick range
Our first CarbonNeutral® certified bricks
Our new Atlas brick factory will also produce our first CarbonNeutral® certified bricks in our range:
- In addition to being c.50% lower embodied carbon than the previous factory, we will also use an element of high-quality carbon offsetting on our ‘pathfinder’ range of carbon neutral bricks
- Still great quality bricks, beautiful aesthetics and with no compromise on performance
- By buying our ‘pathfinder’ range brick you will be supporting certified emission reduction projects that avoid carbon being emitted both in the UK and Internationally
- And they are still made local, by local people, for local communities.
Our journey to Net Zero
In April 2021, we confirmed our intention to make a major investment in our Atlas factory, located in Walsall, West Midlands. It’s an important investment project for the Ibstock Group, with Atlas being selected as a ‘pathfinder factory’ on our journey to net zero. The factory plays a critical role in accelerating our ambition to reduce operational carbon by 40% by 2030 and be Net Zero operations by 2040.

CarbonNeutral® certification
To achieve CarbonNeutral® certification, Ibstock are working with Climate Impact Partners who are specialists in carbon market solutions for climate action. Climate Impact Partners will assess the production of our pathfinder range, in accordance with The Carbon Neutral Protocol, a leading global framework for carbon neutrality. The selected offsetting projects we are supporting are shown below. These projects help to avoid carbon being emitted into the atmosphere that without our support would otherwise create further emissions.

Inspiring the next generation
Our community and wider social impact play an equally important role in our approach:
The Atlas team have been working with local leaders and local schools to inspire the next generation - with significant investment in the community creating new jobs and skills. They have already been appointing three new apprentices to join the team from Autumn 2024.

The team identified a number of local charities to support including raising vital funds for the James Brindley foundation, as well as funds for Acorns children's charity in Aldridge.
