The health and safety of our colleagues, customers and business partners is always our highest priority and this approach is at the centre of our response to the COVID-19 crisis.
In what has been an unprecedented and fast-moving situation, we have been adopting all public health advice provided by the UK Government as this has developed over recent weeks, for example adopting additional hygiene measures on site, implementing social distancing and self-isolation regimes, and facilitating home working for all staff that are able to do so.
Now, in support of the latest UK Government effort to bring the pandemic under control, and to protect the health and well-being of our colleagues, we have decided to suspend all manufacturing operations until further notice.
We have therefore commenced an orderly shutdown of our over 40 manufacturing sites across the UK, which will be completed over the coming days. A skeleton staff will be maintained at our sites during the shutdown period to ensure safety and security is maintained.
We welcome the swift action being taken by the UK Government to preserve employment through the job retention scheme and expect to participate in this initiative as part of our plans to support our colleagues through the crisis period.
While the UK Government has acknowledged the need for some construction and manufacturing operations to continue during this period, the situation remains complex and further clarity may be needed in this area. In the interim, we believe it is appropriate that we suspend operations.
Ibstock is fully committed to playing its part in helping the country meet the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, and, when the time is right, to supporting its customers in the recovery.
